FAQ

Common questions

Where should a complete beginner start with gold trading?

Start with the mechanics, not a live account. Learn what one lot of XAU/USD means (100 oz), what a pip is (0.01), and how margin and leverage interact. Then practise on a demo until your entries, stops and exits are routine. Only fund with money you can lose, and use bank transfer or card amounts you have set aside deliberately.

How much money do I need before I place my first gold trade?

There is no single figure, because it depends on your position size and the leverage your account is set to. Work backwards: decide the naira loss you can accept, convert it to dollars, then use the position size calculator to find a lot size whose stop distance fits that loss. Fund only that amount plus a buffer.

Is gold trading the same as buying gold bars in Nigeria?

No. Trading XAU/USD is a contract on the price, settled in your broker account, with no metal delivered. Buying bars or coins means owning physical metal, with storage and dealer spread costs. CFDs add leverage, which magnifies both gains and losses. Decide which exposure you actually want before you open either route.

What should I learn before risking real naira?

Learn position sizing, stop placement and the cost structure first. Understand that leverage is a cap, not a target, and that a 0.10-lot gold position at 1:200 needs about $85.50 margin, which says nothing about the risk of the trade itself. Practise reading the economic calendar, and keep a written log of every demo trade.

How do I check a broker is safe to use from Nigeria?

Confirm the entity that will hold your account, then verify its licence. FxPro is licensed by the FCA (UK), CySEC and FSCA; confirm any broker on the SEC Nigeria register of capital market operators. Also read how deposits and withdrawals work locally, since funding by bank transfer or card follows different timelines and rules.
